Kiwi Kids News - Hedgehog rescued from Drain

There was a hedgehog in England that got trapped in a parking lot drain on the 29th August 2021. Heaps of crews that are in England came to help. WRAS crew and the firefighters were able to get the hedgehog safely out of the drain, the animal shop took the hedgehog for a check to see if the hedgehog is hurt but nope the hedgehog was alright, so they went back into the wild and tried to find a home of the hedgehog so he could be safe.

Mathematics - Percentage and Fractions

 Today our group and I had to solve a problem about making a 'ei katu. It was about percentage and fractions. The question was super challenging, I learnt how to convert fractions into percentage and also how to find factors of numbers. Here is a photo of my group and I strategie. :D

Snow Planet

I felt so excited because the year 7’s and 8’s were going to Snow Planet. We had to wear 3 layers of jumpers and some warm pants because the company said to bring warm clothes because it will be cold. We went by bus and It was an two hour drive from Glenbrae School to Snow Planet, when we got they I felt so scared because what if the ice would break but I still went to have a try, when we walked inside the building the place was packed there heaps of people at the Snow Planet and I thought to myself “WOW!! This place must be very famous”, each one of us got a pair of boots, and warm waterproof pants. When it was our turn to go to the ice place I was so excited, I ran as fast as I could to go on the mini ice slide and THEN!!! When I saw the long ice slide I was like, “I HAVE TO TRY THAT” so I ran to get a blue little a donut seat so I can use it to slide down, when I made up to the top of the slide and it was my turn to go down, I WAS READY TO GO FAST AS FLASH!! When I was sliding down I was bumping onto the sides, going fast and just having fun.

I got to do that many times, slide down and then walk up, I was tired but it is what it is. When it was our time to head back on the bus to go to school I had so much fun, and it was a great experience, we first had our lunch outside of the building and then jumped on the bus. When we got to school we waited outside our school hall for the bell to ringe, when the bell rang we some of us colleted our siblings and went home. 

 

Mathematics - Pizza

 So today's we had maths and we were in groups. My group and I had to split a pizza because there were 9 of us in the group, our problem was, What percentage of the pizza would each of you have? Our strategie is was faction was 1/9 because there was 9 people and the 1 stands for how many slides we will get, for our percentage the 100% = whole, 90% means each person in the group getting 10%, there was 10% left because 10% that we got we each get 1% and there was 1% left so we split like 0.1 for each person and that means that everyone will get 11.1% so the number keeps recurring. 

Statistics - Maths

Today in Room 7 we learn about Statistics using MEAN, MEDIAN and MODE. MEAN stands for average, MEDIAN stands for middle and MODE stands for most occurring, to find the average we have to add up all of the numbers and we got 159 and we had to divide by it by 11 and to find the middle we have to find the number that's in the middle of all of those 11 numbers, and to find the most occurring we had to find the number that stands out the most.

What I learn at Table Tennis

Room 7 had Table Tennis in our school hall at Glenbrae School from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm. Last week Wednesday our Table Tennis Couch went through with us the rules of Table tennis, how to hold the bat, how to serve the Tennis Ball and also how to hit the ball from your side of the table to the other person's side of the table. Today we got to play a real Table Tennis game like our Table Tennis Couch set out 3 tables for us to play on, the first table was for us to practice on, the second table was for us to play around the world and the third table we had to practice with our Couch like when he serves it to us it has to bounce on my side and then I have to hit is back to his side by not hitting the ball out of the table. The third table our Couch first had the girls and then the boys, the last two girls had to vs each other in the finals and as well as the boys, what I learn is that we have focus on the ball and to try and hit it to the other persons side.

What I learn in Math's

Today in Math's I learned how I can find out factions of numbers and for our problem today it was 3/4 of 244. My math's group had to find out because question we had to figure out is that there is a family that is traveling from Auckland to KeriKeri and the dad of the family put 3/4 of petrol that they needed but its 244 km to go KeriKeri from Auckland. What I got gifted from this Math's section was how I got to know that the bottom number of a fraction has to be cut for example a cake right and you have friends that you have to share it with so pretend I want 2/7 so we cut the cake in 7's and you get 2 Pisces's of cake and to me that made my fraction way easier but, I loved the shearing section we had.    

What I learn in Kiwican today

What I learnt today at Kiwi Can was what do we want to achieve or our goal for this term, we talked about of what kinds of things can we achieve or what kind of goal do we want to achieve.

Our Kiwi can teacher gave us paper and we had to write down on the piece of paper 2 of our goals that we want to make in 1 week, for me I have a interview on the 23th of June and I want to learn my timetables before that interview so I wrote it down.

My next one was finishing my Project Based Learning because we had 5 weeks of architecture for Project Based Learning and this week is our last week.  

We also talked about responsibility because responsibility is very important cause without that we are gonna go crazy, but responsibility is about, for example you have something that you own and you have to look after that because if you can't look after that nobody will give you anything to have.

This is Jaydin and Me learning how to talk in Maori, our teacher gave us maori sentence for us to learn.

Maths

Today our group (Tahi) had a maths session, We were split into 4 groups and my group and I work on a problem that our teacher gave to us. The was our teacher (Mrs Tofa) is cooking Pineapple Pies, Coconut cream buns and Coconut bread, we need 2/3 of a bag flour for the Pineapple pies, 5/6 of a bag of flour for the Coconut Cream and 5/12 of a bag of flour for the Coconut bread. My group and I were very confused in the first place and then when we got some help from our teacher Miss Woodhall we finally understand something, our strategie was:

2 x 4 = 8

3 x 4 = 12

5 x 2 = 10

6 x 2 = 12

And we didn't need to anything to 5/12

We added 8 + 10 + 5 = 23

So it was 23/12 but that can not be possible, but there one 12 in 23 so that one whole and theres one 12 in 23 but we had 11 left and we got 1 whole and 11/12

Pause, Breathe, Smile - PBS

Today was my first Pause, Breathe, Smile in room 7, I felt so calm and relax because we were working on our breathing like breathing in and out because this is very important for us humans cause if we get stress out we can die early and bad things will happen if you don't do this when your stress. We also worked on our mind because we needed to control our breathing but not wondering so we had to say in our mind wonder, I loved the Pause, Breathe, Smile.

Technology - Micro Bit

 Today our WALT was to make a Mico Bit  become a dice at technology, we first start off with making a dice on the Micro bit, we used the step by step that our teacher Miss Ferguson showed us and this is what I did to make the dice.

  

We  also had to make numbers from 1 to 6 on the Micro Bit so we had to put the Micro Bit in our sock and we had to see if the Micro Bit will change number when we take step by step but then when we put it in our pocket it did not change because the Micro Bit was not changing number. We went outside to measure how long was a single leg stride but using a ruler.
