Maths

Today our group (Tahi) had a maths session, We were split into 4 groups and my group and I work on a problem that our teacher gave to us. The was our teacher (Mrs Tofa) is cooking Pineapple Pies, Coconut cream buns and Coconut bread, we need 2/3 of a bag flour for the Pineapple pies, 5/6 of a bag of flour for the Coconut Cream and 5/12 of a bag of flour for the Coconut bread. My group and I were very confused in the first place and then when we got some help from our teacher Miss Woodhall we finally understand something, our strategie was:

2 x 4 = 8
3 x 4 = 12

5 x 2 = 10
6 x 2 = 12

And we didn't need to anything to 5/12

We added 8 + 10 + 5 = 23

So it was 23/12 but that can not be possible, but there one 12 in 23 so that one whole and theres one 12 in 23 but we had 11 left and we got 1 whole and 11/12

Pause, Breathe, Smile - PBS

Today was my first Pause, Breathe, Smile in room 7, I felt so calm and relax because we were working on our breathing like breathing in and out because this is very important for us humans cause if we get stress out we can die early and bad things will happen if you don't do this when your stress. We also worked on our mind because we needed to control our breathing but not wondering so we had to say in our mind wonder, I loved the Pause, Breathe, Smile.

Technology - Micro Bit

Today our WALT was to make a Mico Bit  become a dice at technology, we first start off with making a dice on the Micro bit, we used the step by step that our teacher Miss Ferguson showed us and this is what I did to make the dice.

We  also had to make numbers from 1 to 6 on the Micro Bit so we had to put the Micro Bit in our sock and we had to see if the Micro Bit will change number when we take step by step but then when we put it in our pocket it did not change because the Micro Bit was not changing number. We went outside to measure how long was a single leg stride but using a ruler.

Architeture

WALT: We are learning to create accurate floor plans for building a house.

We used floorplancreator.net to do this.

What I learnt from doing this activity is:

  • To have a floor plan before you build
  • To plan where the rooms should put
  • Inserting the correct objects
When I grow up, if I join the building industry, I would like to be a builder

Here are my floor plans:

Pepeha - Te Reo

What I learned in Kiwican

In Kiwican room 7 and I learned about integrity honesty. Integrity means showing honesty to other people and telling the truth, for example when your parents let you go to the park with your friends and then you go with your friends but you guys go somewhere else and do bad things on the streets, and when you come home and your mum and dad asks you how was it and were you actually at the park and, you just say yeah we were at the park with my friends that's not being honest and being integrity. After our discussion we played splash and also animals, the game splash is way similar to bang, when the person that's calling the names if that person who got called is next to you, you have to say splash and that person has to bob down and try not to get splash. The game animals is we get into four groups and each of the groups get animals sounds so their were, Doggie wolf, Piggy Oink, Kitty Meow and Tiger Raw and the person who's holding the cone points to a group and if they are pointing to you group you have to make the sound of that animal but you gotta stay on the beat. We finished off with GKQ and said our KiwiCan chant.   Kiwi Can - Kiwi Kaha - Graeme Dingle Foundation

A recount of our trip to the Sky Tower

As I hopped off the bus and BOOM!! I was amazed by the tall as Sky Tower, a lot of the Room 7 students were very excited because it was some of us’s first time at the Sky Tower. When we got inside we met a lady named Maria and a co worker that also helps Maria and to help us look around the Sky Tower name Cooper, when we went under ground I was very amazed because  they had shops and different kinds of things under the Sky Tower and I didn't know all this time. Maria showed us some videos that were about the history of the Sky Tower and why it was built, when it was built, what they used to build the Sky Tower, some of the videos were interesting to me and now I know some facts about the Sky Tower.

Next Room 7 and I walked in  an elevator to go all the way up to level 51, when we got up to the top I was so  scared to go walk around and near the window because we were so high up. I walked more close to the window and got to see the lovely view, I could see heaps of places around the Sky Tower and I also when I was walking around the floor was a window and I could see people walking and where people jump off the Sky Tower and land on this blue floor. When we finished on level 51 we went downstairs but this time we used the Stairs, we went to a level where the people who work at the Sky Tower do their functions and some of their activities that they do at the Sky Tower.

After Maria talked about what they used to build the room because that room the wool's are concrete and Metal, why did they build that room, they have that a lot of the medical things are in that room so they could use it if someone got hurt. We walked around the room and saw a Dinosphere that helps the Sky tower not getting hit any thunder, lighting or anything else, we went back in an elevator to go on the very top floor, I was so excited because we got to lay on the window and we felt like we were gonna fall down because it was such a big window that it can’t break even if you shoot at it.

At last we made our way back down underground where we came into the building to say our final goodbyes to Maria and Cooper, one of our students name Soane said ‘’Thank you’’ for teaching us a how the Sky Tower works and they said ‘’We are very welcome to have you’’, we hopped back onto the bus and headed to Glenbrae School.

Coding The Microbit - Technology

The Year 8s from Glenbrae School learned how to make Rock,Paper,Scissors on a Microbit at Tamaki Collage, 1 was Paper, 2 was Rock and 3 was Scissors but when we shake the Microbit it turns to different object like Rock,Paper and Scissors, it was so cool to do because we had battles with our teachers and students. We also did different kind of coding like hearts, names and smiley faces.
